I produce all of the products in my own studio in Istanbul. Each piece is individually handcrafted. Depending on the product, sometimes I use a pottery wheel, sometimes I use the freehand shaping method.First, I shape the clay the desired shape on the pottery wheel. I let the clay rest and dry on the shelf for a while until it reaches the appropriate hardness. Then I put it back on the pottery wheel to smooth out the bottom and attach the handle if needed. After the shaping process, I leave it to dry on the shelf for a few days. Once I am sure it has completely dried, I perform the first firing at 1050 degrees. This is called biscuit firing. The product coming out of the oven is sanded, sponged or washed according to the need. Then I add a layer of glaze and and fired at 1240 degrees. This is the most exciting time for a ceramic artist. The opening of the kiln. The first moment when the result of this process, which can take 24 hours, can be observed. Sometimes it can be difficult to predict how the products will come out. In this firing, glaze creates a glassy layer on the surface of the product, making it stronger. The glassy layer makes the product waterproof, easy to wash and does not retain dirt. Of course, depending on the glaze used, different colors and shapes of beauty are revealed on the surface. Than I will check the quality and prepare it for packaging.
